“The road less travelled in Danshui, Taipei”
Regardless whether it’s a yearly event, everyone is always happy to see Cherry Blossoms blooming because it means spring is here and off goes the cold weather.
The cherry blossoms season in Taiwan starts around mid of February till April. While I was there, I managed to catched the first bloom.
One of the most popular places to see Cherry Blossoms known among the locals is at Tien Yuen Temple (天元宮) in DanShui District. It’s quite a two-in-one destination because you get to visit a temple and at the same time, view the Cherry Blossoms. If you are short of time, I will suggest you to just head straight here for Cherry Blossoms viewing.
The Cherry Blossoms blooming in Tien Yuen Temple are known as the Yoshino Cherry species. It was introduced by a monk about twenty years ago. As the temple is built on a hilly terrain, the cherry blossoms can be appreciated from different angles, with a different backdrop as scenery, making it a heaven for photographers.
Address of Tien Yuen Temple: No. 36, Section 3, Beixin Rd, Danshui District, New Taipei City
You can reach there by bus:
Take bus no. 875, 866, 876 or 877 to Tien Yuen Temple from MRT Danshui Station.
I drove there are and there are ample parking space in the Temple itself. I will be good if you can drive there if you happen to rent a car, because after visiting the temple, you can continue to drive towards the Cherry Blossoms Trail which is in the same area.
For additional Cherry Blossom viewing areas, you can read more on it in my next post.
