CHUNYU YUANZI [春餘園子]

At the foot of Datunshan [大屯山], just 2 minutes drive from TianYuan temple hides this tranquil garden restaurant - Chunyu Yuanzi [春餘園子]. A sense of calm engulfs me once I step into this beautiful space. The owner, Mr Tang Baiyu went to great lengths to create a "Spring Garden", making sure every furniture or material used complements the space to give a slow living concept. He spent a total of 8 years slowly building the gardens, the main restaurant area, the tea rooms, adding in the lights, the plants and the stone paths. Each detail to form a Zen-like living space of a simple and quiet atmosphere.

There are only six tables with only 36 seats. Mr Tang intentionally kept a a small seating size to compliment the quiet zen-like space, and ensuring each guest are served with the most quality food and attention. The comfort of big space, the attention to detail fixtures, the expansive spring garden, with the freshest ingredients provides the best quality dining experience which is rare in a city where space is luxury.

There is no fixed menu, guests are served dishes using seasonal ingredients, with Jiangsu and Zhejiang cuisine cooking techniques, supplemented with Guangdong and Taiwanese cuisine. The combination is uniquely delicious and with such beautiful surroundings, the taste of the food is elevated to the next level. Chunyu Yuanzi [春餘園子] is indeed a special restaurant hidden in the mountain. I would recommend coming here if you are seeking for a unique dining experience in Taipei, Taiwan.

A total of 10 dishes are served.(From top left to right)

    1. The appetiser is a vegetarian plate of  "smoked fish", "black glutinous seafood" and "chicken wings", accompanied with pickled cucumbers.
    2. Savoury cake served with pumpkin sauce, a famous dish origin from Yilan, Taiwan.
    3. Roasted prawns with green bean sauce, where white rice is stuffed in the head of the prawn, soaking in the full sweetness of the prawn, balanced with the light taste of the green bean.
    4.  Seasonal fish grilled to perfection with the side of Chinese black fungus and cucumber
    5. A cleansing palate ice mulberry
    6.  The main course is the perfectly stewed soft beef and pork rib topped on soft radish
    7. Mushroom and vegetable fried rice
    8.  Finish with the signature brown rice chicken soup
    9. A fruit plate to cleanse the palate again
    10. And lastly, a bowl of longan soup to end the meal.
